Description
Despair was created by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg, and she belongs to DC Comics.
Ultra-fine Sharpie on bristol board.
Ages and ages ago, my sister told me (not asked--she's not the asking type) that she wanted black and white drawings of the Endless from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I said 'uh-huh' and moved on with my life. A week ago, however, I was getting overwhelmed at the Publishing Institute and really needed to do something to change gears, and suddenly all I wanted to do was draw the Endless.
So I did.
And here they are.
The pose reference was [link] and the hardest part was actually making the lovely ugly enough to be Despair. Using such a lovely picture for Despair made sense to me, though. I've always had an uncomfortable sympthathy for her.
